Michel Delannoy was born in 1947 in the border town of Quiévrain in the south of Belgium. His (French) father worked in a factory, where Michel also went to work after primary school and a brief period of vocational training. When his father retired, he worked at his brother-in-law’s bakery for a while, but it was difficult to get along with the headstrong Michel and he eventually had to go back to the factory. It was decided in 2000 to admit him to an institution that organised daily visits to the atelier for the mentally handicapped, Le Roseau Vert. At the atelier he developed a passion for drawing and painting, which greatly improved his health and well-being. Michel dreams of travelling, of big cities and distant countries, and their characteristic architecture and folk festivals. With an almost compulsive sense of order, he sums up all the best known local and national features in a colorful and festive composition.
